Neugodnikov and Weiller reached the final of the EUROSAF European Open Match Race Championship
To the applause and whistles of spectators the Russian skipper Evgeny Neugodnikov has reached the final of the EUROSAF European Match Race Championship ?YAVA TROPHY 2008?. Tomorrow, September 14, he will meet in the final with the Spanish skipper Manuel Weiller. Nick Cherry and Staffan Lindberg will fight for the third place.
After Neugodnikovs victory by a score of 3:0 there was no chance left for Nick Cherry to attain the final. The last year winner of YAVA TROPHY Staffan Lindberg experienced failure already in his first match. Just after the -Preparatory- signal the main sail halyard suddenly got untied, and the main sail fell down. But the sportsmen kept their heads and tied the main sail with the spinnaker halyard. They went on with racing, but couldn´t hoist the spinnaker on the course from the windward mark. As the result his opponent Manuel Weiller sailing downwind was faster. Lindberg lost also the second and the third matches.
