Frech Kevin Cantin dominates the first day

After the official presentation`s ceremony last Wednesday at the venue of Conference Room Petxina Deportivo Cultural Complex in Valencia, today began the competition organised by the EUROSAF and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation with the support of Iberdrola and the collaboration of the city of Valencia, the International Federation Disable Sailing, the Spanish Paralympic Committee, the Real Club Náutico de Valencia and the Spanish Ministery of Sports.

European Championship

Under the Organization of the the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, the EUROSAF and the IFDS will organize the 2.4mR Class European Championship in Valencia from 22nd to 26th October 2014.

The event will be held in the Marina Real Juan Carlos I, the same venue in Valencia where the America`s Cup in 2007 and 2010 were celebrated.

Variable wind conditions, across the two race areas, result in one course completing a full schedule of races and the other only a partial programme.  The championship, however, is well underway and proving a great success with the sailors and coaches.

The day started with light and shifty winds, a bright sky, light clouds and sunshine. The unpredictable breeze caused lengthy postponements on course Bravo, the outer course, delaying the start for both the 420 and Laser Radial by some two hours. Course Alpha, however, was able to get three races in for the RS:X fleet, followed by another four races for the 29er fleet, in less time than it took to finish two races for each class on course Bravo.

Despite the breezy start and delayed launching of the boats, the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship again completed an almost full programme of races today, with some interesting developments is the overall placings.

Strong winds caused a delay to the start of Day 2 of the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship in Gdynia this morning, with guests reportedly as high as 30 knots. Conditions lessened sufficiently that racing got underway by the middle of the day, in wind speeds of some 16 to 17 knots with gusts in the region of 22 knots. This made for some exciting racing. As the day progressed, so the winds lessened, with shifts close to the shore, but otherwise the direction was fairly steady.  One of the members of the International Jury said ”we had everything from 10 to 30 knots of wind, but generally the direction was consistent, starting the day at 265° and ending at 260°”

Excellent conditions for sailing welcomed the first races of the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship here in Gdynia today, with sunshine, winds around 14 knots and only slight seas for the competitors to enjoy.

Racing got underway on schedule at 11.00 on two race courses, course Bravo for the International 420 and Laser Radial, and course Alpha for the RS:X and 29er. Three races were completed for all classes, excepting the 29er, who are scheduled to complete four races each day.

Across both courses weather conditions were similar, with wind speeds gusting to maybe 18 knots, but generally staying around 12/14 knots. Waves were no more than 0.5m, less on the more inshore Alpha course, making conditions excellent for sailing. The day started with sunshine, although there were one or two showers as the day progressed, some quite heavy.
