EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup

For Olympic Classes

A new series of championship regattas will be organised in Europe next year, The new series, which incorporates all Olympic disciplines, had previously been announced in May of this year.  These regattas will incorporate new innovations in race formats that will make sailing easier to follow and more attractive for sailors, media and spectators alike.

EUROSAF announce the rules for the EUROSAF Nations’ Cup: Team Trophy, which will be awarded to the best performing nation at the forthcoming EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship.

The rules concerning participation in the team competition, held as part of the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship are as follows:

The scores towards the EUROSAF Nations’ Cup: Team Trophy (Nations Cup) will be based on the overall series results of the top four performers from each nation, across all competing disciplines, where no more than one performers’ overall series result may count towards the Nations Cup in any one discipline.

Top ten overall series results translate into points: ten points for a first, nine for a second, all the way down to one point for a tenth place overall finish. A nation takes its four best scores and combines them to come up with their overall Nations Cup score for the event (anywhere between 0-40 points).

The Nations Cup is awarded to the nation with the highest number of points at the end of the championship, which takes place between the 4th and 10th August, in Aarhus, Denmark.

A new tracking facility will enable family and friends to use Facebook to follow their sons, daughters and friends online throughout the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship in Aarhus, Denmark, which takes place between 4th – 10th August.

The European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF) would like to extend their congratulations to the Irish Sailing Association together with The Royal St George Yacht Club, National Yacht Club and Royal Irish Yacht Club, on successfully organising the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Dublin Bay, Ireland, which concluded last Friday.

The emphasis on youth sailing in Europe now switches to Denmark, who host the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, European Championship, which commences in Aarhus on Saturday 4th August.

EUROSAF announce a weekend of Team Racing in September

Team Racing is one of the most under-rated disciplines within sailing; it requires an excellent knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing, outstanding boat-handling, quick reactions from the crew and, above all else, it provides an excellent and easy to follow spectator sport, for both sailors and non-sailors alike.

In a celebration of Team Racing, EUROSAF has arranged a weekend in September when two different versions of this sailing discipline will hold their European Championship.  The weekend in question is Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd September, and the venues are in Great Britain and The Netherlands.

EUROSAF mark the retirement of their long serving Treasurer, Evert Lagerweij, and confirm the appointment of his successor, Andreas Denecke, with effect from 1st July, 2012.

Those members who attended the Annual Meeting in Cyprus last April, will have witnessed the presentation of an engraved crystal goblet to the retiring Treasurer, Evert Lagerweij. Evert had served in this role since the foundation of EUROSAF back in 1998 and before that was Treasurer to the European Union Sailing Association (EUSA). The presentation was in recognition of his loyal and diligent service to the organisation, not just in the rôle as Treasurer, but also for the wisdom and intellect he brought to the Executive and the organisation as a whole. During the last few days many accolades have been passed to Evert from Executive and Committee members in gratitude for all he has done, and we are sure there will be more to come. He will be greatly missed, but is not lost to us completely, because he will continue to represent EUROSAF at European Boating Association (EBA) meetings, where he is as well-known as he is within EUROSAF. Thank you Evert, for everything. Anyone wishing to send a message to Evert can do so at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
