Medal Races : only the best remain!

As forecasted, the wind rose at the Moulin Blanc marina in the early afternoon. Thanks to some good conditions (sun, 8 to 9 knots North/North-Westerly wind), the young sailors engaged in the Eurosaf Youth Championship were able to compete between one and three races today, depending on the class. A formality for some, for others it was all or nothing as they were fighting to grab the last remaining places in the Top 8 and pocket a ticket to the Medal Race.

Friday saw racing delayed until 16.00 due to light winds.  Even then, the wind moved to the north, causing the race committee to abandon the first three races started, relay the course and start again.

Thankfully, being high summer, the evenings are light, so racing could, and did, continue until well past 20.00. This means that despite the late start and fickle conditions, the race schedule is up-to-date, with eight or nine races completed, depending on the class programme.

Sea, sail & sun!

Racing Day 2 in Brest, a full-on afternoon for the young European sailors competing in the 4th edition of the Eurosaf Youth Championship.

The first races started as scheduled at 12:00, but soon enough, Aeolus, the god of the winds, got under the skin of the officials and the sailors who had to wait on the water for the wind to change direction and speed.

Third day of racing

Today was a day a little bit special. No races were launched before 4pm and committees cancelled 3 first start proceedings because the sea breeze turns to the north, and force the race direction to modify marks.

In 420, 2 races were launched, the largest smile was for Nikolaus Kampelmuhler and Olivier Kobale from Austria who won 2 races. In this class, that's always Theo Carayon and Erwan Lucas from France which keep the first position with 18 points.

Fair winds to all the 166 competitors!

The Moulin Blanc marina was buzzing this morning with everyone rushing to the dock to be the first on the water! At exactly 11:00, the first races started on the two racing areas (420 / Laser Radial and RSX / SL16 / 29er).

The sun had turned up and with it a nice breeze of a dozen knots. A few wind shifts in the afternoon forced the referees to make the competitors wait.
