The EUROSAF Youth Sailing European Championship takes to the water in Aarhus, Denmark, to find  the top young sailors in Europe.

Amidst all the excitement of the London Olympics, many of the best young sailors in Europe will be gathering in Denmark to compete in the EUROSAF Youth Sailing, Europe Championship, for which racing starts on Monday 6th August. Teams will be gathering in the City of Aarhus in preparation for what is the first multi-discipline Continental Championship to be held in Europe for European sailors, an event that is to become an annual championship for these young sailors.

Some 18 European countries are sending their youth, under 18, sailors to compete in several different disciplines, including girls and boys single-handed and double-handed dinghies, plus sailboards and a high performance dinghy. The equipment to be used is the Laser Radial, International 420, RS:X sailboard and the 29er skiff.

Nearly 150 sailors, in well over 100 different boats and boards, will be competing over 5 days of competition to decide who will be crowned the youth champion of Europe in each of these disciplines and who will win the series of new trophies generously donated by some EUROSAF member countries. Amongst these is the prestigious Nations’ Cup: Team Trophy, which will be awarded to the top competing nation, donated by the Royal Yachting Association.

Amongst the innovations being introduced for the event is the introduction of a new facility which allows a competitor to keep family and friends up-to-date with their progress in the event via Facebook Timeline, through a link with the TracTrac tracking system. More information regarding this will be found at www.eurosafyouthsailing.org

Throughout the event there will be regular press releases issued and information will be published on the event website. You will be able to follow developments on Twitter and Facebook and it will also be possible to watch the races via the website, using the TracTrac system.
