The 2015 EUROSAF Match Racing Open European Championship has a new and worthy European Champion after winning the last match to Pierre Quiroga
With a perfect organisation and just in front of one of the best scenario possible in the world for this discipline, the Hermitage and Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg, the 2015 EUROSAF European Match Racing Championship has closed this year edition as the best way possible. Winds of 30 knots and very sunny day. Hundreds of people were watching the finals at a distance of less than 50 meters from the competitors in the pier.
After winning in Semi-final 1by 3 - 0 to his opponent, the Polish Tarnacki, the French Quiroga passed directly to the final against Vladimir Lipavsky who also won 2 -1 to Italian Valerio Galati.
Exciting final matches
In the petit final, Przemek Tarnacki (Bronze) did not give any opportunity to Valerio Galati (4th) to whom won by 2 - 0 in two very exciting and close matches.
The matches in gran final were also super exciting and combative. Quiroga, after winning by 2 - 0 to the Russian Lipavsky saw how the Russian won the third match to put the results in an amazing 2 - 1. Sailing Instructions states a time limit of 1630h and minutes before te Race Committee starts the last match of the day which means a final match for the winner and an unvertain result. A proper Match with 30 knots and many crosses. Quiroga was penalised and tried to remove it by fighting with Lipavsky. At the finishing line Quiroga was not able to complete his penalty and Lipavsky won the match and the European Title.
"It was fantastic last match and amazing finals" said Vladimir Lipavsky just minutes after crossing the finishing line for the last time in Saint Petersburg
The podium was completed by the Polish Przemek Tarnacki (3rd) who won in the petit final to Italian Valerio Galeti by 2 - 0.
At the prizegiving ceremony held in the sailing venue Mr Victor Chirkov - the general director of the National Congress Palace of Saint Petersburg - confirmed the support one year more for the 2016 edition.
Also Vice-President of EUROSAF, the Spanish Rafa González who awarded to the three medallist teams and declared the high quality of the organisation and the capacity of the city of Saint Petersburg to be one of the Match Racing venue of reference in the world. Rafa González congratulated to all the participants as well thank you on behalf of EUROSAF to the organisers.
Inigualable organisation on the water with the Race Committee leaded by Ana Deyanova (RUS) and her team as well as the ever perfect job of the Chief Umpire - the Italian Luigi Bertini and his team.
